4 Steps to Critiquing Art

Essential Standard B.CR.1: Use critical analysis to generate responses to a variety of prompts.

The process of looking at an artwork, thinking about it and deciding whether or not you like it is a form of critique. By learning how to use a 4-step critique process, you can make a more informed opinion of a work of art by taking into account the context in which it was made. For example, you would not judge a cave painting made in 32000 B.C. the same way you would judge a painting that someone made today. The artist's purpose for making the work is also important to consider. The google slide below explains a process that we will use when critiquing art in this class.
