Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to learn about the steps of the scientific method and identify comma rules. It has two parts. In the first part, you practice good reading habits and mark up the text with your notes. In the second part, you reread, noting the comma usage.
Directions
- Open and copy The Scientific Method Links to an external site. and save it to your Google Drive (My Drive).
- Read the text and practice engaged reading strategies by highlighting text and unknown words, making notes about interesting topics, and relating information to your personal life.
Think about the following questions as you read:
- What are the steps of the scientific method?
- Why is it important to communicate your results to others?
- Can the scientific method steps be used in a different order?
- What might be the advantage to collecting evidence in a natural setting rather than in a lab?
- Read the article again. This time while you are reading, highlight sentences that use a comma after an introductory phrase, items in a series that are separated by commas, and sentences that use a comma before quotation marks.
- Submit your assignment with a Google link.
